ATV / UTV Trailers

Trailers for ATVs, UTVs and garden tractors are available in two basic designs:

"Deck-over-the-wheels" trailers
These trailers have bed that sits above the wheels. Deckover design creates a wider platform for the cargo, on the other hand, however, higher deck means higher center of gravity of the loaded trailer, which affects stability.

"Deck-between-the-wheels" trailers
These trailers have bed that sits between the trailer wheels. Placing the bed between the wheels reduces usable width of the bed, so that the these trailers come out a bit narrower, but they  have low center of gravity and thus greater stability when fully loaded.

Homologations and loading your trailer
With non-homologated trailer you are not allowed to drive on public roads. On the public roads you can only ride with homologated trailers. Maximum weight of fully loaded trailer is limited depending on capability of the towing vehicle, and must not be exceeded. You will find information on the maximum technically permissible laden mass (= maximum weight of the trailer and its load) in your  ATV / UTV specifications or vehicle handbook. When loading your trailer, maximum vertical force at the coupling point when the trailer is fully loaded (tongue weight) is also important for you. Improper weight distribution (if loaded trailer exerts too much downward force to the coupling point) can cause your ATV to sag, which results in poor handling and front wheels loosing the grip - you´ll not be able to drive safely.
