How to clean your motorcycle helmet

Cleaning the outer shell:

Outer surface of the helmet requires occasional cleaning with water and a mild non-aggressive soap.

  • Remove the visor from the helmet to reach inaccessible places (no tools required).
  • Mix up a washing solution made of warm water and a mild soap
  • Soak a paper or microfiber towel in the washing solution and place it over areas where dried insects are stuck, letting it soak for several minutes. The dirt gets easier to remove.
  • Gently rub entire outer surface with the washing solution and paper or microfiber towel or your fingertips; do not scrub helmet shell using pressure with a towel (this causes scratches)
  • Use moist cotton swabs to clean inside the vents
  • Wipe away any soapy residue with a moist microfiber towel
  • Carefully rinse the helmet, making sure that water does not enter into the helmet.
  • If your helmet has any electronic parts such as Bluetooth device, its important to be very cautious with the water.
  • Dry the shell with a dry microfiber towel
  • Once dry, you can lubricate visor sealing and control/flip mechanics with silicone oil.
  • Never clean your helmet with aggressive chemicals such as gasoline, solvents and aggressive or abrasive agents.

Cleaning the removable interior:

Helmet interiors are constantly exposed to all forms of dirt, sweat, grime and bakteria. Cleaning them periodically is important mainly for motocross, off-road and ATV helmets. All interiors of LS2 helmets are designed to be fully removable for easy maintenance in terms of washing and clearing. If you are riding in dusty conditions, get the interior clean with a vacuum cleaner after every extremely dusty ride.

  • Pull out all of the inner liner including the cheek pads from the helmet, paying attention to how they are secured into place.
  • Wash the interior and cheek pads by hand in warm water and mild soap in the kitchen sink. We recommend to use fragrance-free baby hair shampoo that won’t irritate your skin and won´t leave strong fragrance. Give the interior a good rinse then.
  • Pat interior and cheek pads dry with a towel and let them air dry in room temperature. Don´t use hair dryers, never dry interior on direct sunlight, near heater, radiator and other heating elements - high temperatures may damage the inner liner material.
  • Insert completely dried interior back into the helmet.

Visor cleaning:

  • Wet a paper towel with luke warm water and place it over the outer surface of the visor.
  • Allow the visor to soak under the paper towel, loosening the dirt and debris from its surface.
  • Remove the paper towel from the visor. Gently clean the surface of the visor with lukewarm water and mild soap.
  • Do not use any abrasive cleaners, alcohol or solvents containing chemicals.
  • Clean inner surface of the Anti-fog visor with luke warm water only.
  • Pat the visor dry with a soft paper towel. Avoid rubbing against visor.
