How to choose a motocross goggles

MX goggles protect your eyes from sticks, branches, rocks, bugs, roost and other evils that may cause permanent damage to your eyes. Find quality motocross goggles in our web store that give you maximum protection. Here are helpful hints and tips to help you when choosing your motocross goggles.

When choosing goggles for motocross, enduro, ATV or mountain bike, the first thing you must do is  to consider which type of goggles is right for you. Goggles must protect your eyes while offering the biggest field of view possible. Goggles should fill the helmet opening as much as possible to protect your entire face. If you are choosing between two models, choose the one that has wider field of view, which let you see more to the left and right, up and down. Another requirements can be the level of anti-fog protection and the system which is used to maintain a clear view in muddy conditions.

Tear-offs and Roll-off

  • Essentially, both systems lay another layer of clear plastic film across your goggles. The Tear-offs are disposable clear films that are cut to fit the exterior of the visor. During a race/ride your goggles get sprayed with mud, crud and roost. With Tear-offs can be clear view quickly restored again simply by ‘tearing off’ the top layer film to reveal a clear foil underneath (tear-offs usually come in ‘stacks’ of six or seven). Make sure to choose goggles with Tear-off pins to which the film foils are affixed. Tear-off system is the most common among riders, however you must always take care not to pull off the entire stack of tear-offs at once.

  • The Roll-off system prevents the problem of tearing off the entire stack of clear film. Roll-Offs consist of a thin, clear plastic film that is held tight against the outside of the goggle by two small coils on either end of the goggle. If necessary, rider uses a pull chord to roll off the dirtied part of film replacing it with a new clean portion of film. The Roll-off system also captures the dirty film in opposite coil rather than it being thrown away on the track or trail like the tear-offs.

  • When buying motocross goggles, be sure to try the goggles with your helmet on. Goggles must completely fill the visor of your helmet so that whole your face is protected as much as possible. Make also sure the face foam fits your face properly and that there are no gaps where sand and dust can get in. You also don´t want sweat dripping into your eyes. Most goggles come with double or triple-layer foam that soaks up sweat and moisture, preventing it from running down your face or into your eyes.

  • You should also check if replacement lenses for your particular model are available on the market - clear, tinted or mirror. If your lenses get scratched, it’s a good idea to replace them in time - when riding directly into the sun with scratched lenses you see virtually nothing. Your should have not only  replacement clear lenses, but also tinted or mirrored ones for bright, sunny days.
